Vermont Falls in OT to St. Paul’s

On Saturday, January 25th #6 St. Paul’s School traveled to Saxtons River for a Lakes Region matchup. The Wildcats looked to prove themselves after last season’s meeting. Segui ’21 earned the start in net for Vermont.

The entire game was fast-paced and gritty. The Wildcats stunned the Pelicans and scored first. Kaltounkova ’20 buried a Sujishi ’22 rebound. Brooks ’23 was credited with the second assist. With a minute left in the period St. Paul’s tied the game at one apiece.

St. Paul’s came out strong in the second keeping up their momentum from the first scoring a short-handed goal early in the period. However, the Wildcats did not give up and battled, which paid off with Kaltounkova ’20 tying the game at two to finish the period. Brooks ’22 and Keller ’20 had assists on the play.

In the third period, the Wildcats keep grinding. Creamer ’21 put Vermont up by one on a breakaway goal from Citera ’21 and Powers ’22. The Wildcats battled to hold on to the lead, but the Pelicans scored late in the third to send the game to overtime. Similarly to the rest of the game overtime was back in forth with both teams having scoring opportunities. Unfortunately, St. Paul’s was able to capitalize on theirs halfway through the five minute overtime.

Segui ’21 had 31 saves in net and Fortier ’21 was named player of the game. The Wildcats are back in action on Friday, January 31 when they travel to New Hampton for a 4 p.m. Lakes Region game against the Huskies.
