Here at Vermont Academy we pride ourselves in making sure all our students find our campus as their home away from home. Our Student Life Office works hard to make sure everything is in order for our students to thrive. From preparing dorms upon our students' arrival, transportation arrangements for our students to get home safely, to making sure our students learn in an environment of support and encouragement while following the student handbook, and everything in between! Our goal is to make sure families and students feel like this is where they belong. Throughout the year, students will have the opportunity to excel in many areas and we will be in constant communication with their families so you can also be there while we see them thrive.
Residential Life
Vermont Academy is primarily a coed boarding school in nature; our residential program is an integral part of our students’ lives. Living with peers and dorm parents strengthens the relationships within our community. Our residential program strives to maintain a family atmosphere, while gradually preparing students for the challenges of independent living in college. Being a private boarding school, your dorm room is more than just a place to hang out, it’s your home away from home. Students will have the opportunity to live in one of our 8 different dormitories around campus. We work hard to make sure that dorm becomes a micro-community of best friends, supportive dorm parents that encourage your growth as a student, an athlete and most importantly, as a person. However, Residential Life goes beyond the dormitory. Our facilities are provided with wonderful areas in which our students can learn and experience life in many ways. Our Wildcat Den, where students can hang out during their free time and enjoy a snack, or our Student Lounge, where students can gather around and play videogames, watch TV, or play some Ping Pong, are just two of many examples. In addition to student life, we also offer Vermont Academy at Mount Snow, our winter-term ski academy where students can live in dorms and gain access to training programs taught by professional coaches all while achieving structured academic programming.
Student Life Program
VA is more than a school. Here, we go beyond textbooks and academic courses. Our Student Life Office offers a Student Life Curriculum that matches and follows our Vermont Academy Mission and Core Beliefs. Our Student Life Program consists of a variety of opportunities for our student body to learn in different ways. Weekly community lunches, formal dinners, or ResLife Nights every month, are just a few examples of this Student Life Program we offer to get the best of our students.
Our international students come from over 20 different countries, all around the world. At Vermont Academy we want to make sure our international students feel like they belong here, that this is their home. To do that, our international team understands the extra care that needs to go behind the scenes with our international students. New international students will have the opportunity to experience Vermont Academy some days earlier than everyone else, to ease the cultural shock that entitles coming to a new country and adapting to a new culture. Our student leaders and proctors, as well as our faculty, facilitate this transition during international orientation, making sure by the end of it everyone feels comfortable and happy at their new home. During the year, regular check-ins as well as cultural celebrations make our international students feel like they can also share their cultures and where they come from with the rest of the community. At the end of the year, our international students never want to leave!
