  • How You Can Be Involved

There are many ways that you can stay in touch with Vermont Academy, and volunteering a little of your time is an excellent way to do so! Here are some of the ways in which you can help Vermont Academy while keeping on top of the latest things happening on campus.
  • Refer a Student -- The Alumni Merit Scholarship

Vermont Academy Alumni can refer an extended family member or friend for admission to the school. Qualified boarding applicants will receive a $10,000 merit scholarship that is applied for the duration of enrollment at Vermont Academy. The day student scholarship amount is $2,500.

The referring alumna/alumnus must email Nicole Losavio, Director of Alumni Engagement, at nlosavio@vermontacademy.org. The alumna/alumnus also must write a letter of recommendation for the student (the form can be found here). This recommendation can be submitted to the admissions office at admissions@vermontacademy.org.

  • Alumni Council

Tom Oxholm ’82 and N'dia Riegler '02 are co-chairs of the Alumni Council. VA's Alumni Council works to connect alumni to each other and to Vermont Academy. The Council consists of alumni volunteers from different classes and geographical areas who work to promote the VA connection both on campus and around the country. They also share the alumni perspective with the Administration and the Board of Trustees with the hope of advancing VA's mission.
  • Class Representatives

Sean Bersell ’77 is the Class Rep Chair. Class reps have three important job responsibilites. They are to:
    • CONNECT— keep class spirit alive through calls, emails, social networking, thank you notes, and/or class notes; send an annual letter to classmates; actively seek to find lost alumni/ae and capture email addresses for all classmates. Coordinate class involvement in Reunion Weekend.
    • GIVE — set an example by giving annually at the beginning of the fiscal year.
    • ASK — others to join you in supporting Vermont Academy financially.
  • Alumni Admissions Volunteers

If you know of someone considering independent secondary school, keep Vermont Academy in mind! If you want to work with the Admissions Office, you may be asked to attend a school fair near you or interview prospective students and families who cannot make it to campus for a visit. You may also be asked to call student candidates in your geographical area or who share one of your interests.

For more information, contact the Alumni Development Office at (802) 869-6223 or email the Alumni Office.

Alumni Can Support Admissions Recruitment Efforts

With the academic year underway, the Admissions team has begun to focus recruitment efforts on the 2022-2023 school year.

With this in mind, we are considering various alumni volunteer opportunities in support of their work. This might include participating in a young alumni panel (graduates of the last 15 years), opening your home or place of business to prospective families for a reception, and/or conducting outreach to accepted students.

  • Reflections on Indigenous Peoples' Day

Ms. Ashley Storrow, Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
In 2019, the governor of Vermont, Phil Scott, officially renamed Columbus Day to Indigenous Peoples' Day. We take this day as a moment to pause and acknowledge the ancestral homeland of the Abenaki tribe on which Vermont Academy is situated. This tribe is a member of the Wabanaki Confederacy and has been inhabiting the Connecticut River Valley for more than 10,000 years.  The closeby “Great Falls” in Bellows Falls is a venerable site to the Abenaki as a fishing location and burial ground.
