We provide a wide variety of health and wellness services to our students, including access to our Health Center staff, counseling, flu preparedness, and athletic training.

Health Services

The health and safety of Vermont Academy students are our top priorities. The Proctor House Health Services staff seeks to help students maintain the best possible level of physical and emotional health, both by providing treatment for acute and chronic physical, social, emotional, and mental health issues and by providing the knowledge and resources necessary to assist students in making healthy choices now and in the future.

Proctor House Health Services is located in the red house near Horowitz Performing Arts Center and below the hockey rink. It includes an infirmary with 10 beds in a home-like environment and a counseling center on the second floor. Nursing staff is available 24 hours a day via the Health Services pager at (802) 741-2440.

For any questions about Health Services and/or to speak to a nurse, call (802) 869-6239 or email nurse@vermontacademy.org.

Counseling Services

Health Services staff includes two counselors: one Masters Level Social Worker and one Certified Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselor.  Individual counseling, assistance with emotional problems or issues, peer relationships, drug or alcohol abuse support, family meetings, classroom observations and feedback, as well as off-campus referrals are available to all students.

Counselors are on campus Monday through Friday with office hours from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Counseling staff is available after hours on an on-call basis.

Sports Medicine

The Health Services staff also includes one full-time certified athletic trainer (ATC). The athletic trainer manages the athletic training room located in Williams Gymnasium. Athletic training services include: injury prevention, evaluation, diagnosis, rehabilitation, and management for all athletic or orthopedic related injuries and illnesses. Any student who has suffered illness or injury must be cleared by a nurse or athletic trainer prior to returning to sports/activities.
Vermont Academy is a coed college preparatory boarding and day school in southern Vermont, serving grades 9-12 plus a postgraduate year.
