Advanced Art Students Create Bowls to Benefit Bellows Falls, Vermont

Vermont Academy students created bowls for the 21st Annual Empty Bowl dinner on Sunday, November 4th. The dinner benefits the food programs at Our Place Drop-In Center in Bellow Falls and is their biggest fundraiser.
Our Place Drop-In Center has been serving the community surrounding Bellows Falls, Vermont for nearly 25 years. They are a community meal site, food pantry, and social services resource for hundreds of people. The dinner took place at Alyson’s Orchards in Walpole, NH.

Empty Bowls is a grassroots movement by artists and craftspeople in cities and towns around the world to care for and feed the hungry in their communities. Area restaurants and schools donate soup, salad and bread for dinner and attendees select one of the handmade bowls to dine from and then take home as a reminder of those who struggle to put food on the family table. Empty Bowls supports food-related charitable organizations around the world and has raised millions of dollars to help end hunger.

“This is our most important fundraiser of the year,” said Our Place director Lisa Pitcher. “We are very grateful for the donations of bowls, auction items, and food that make it possible.”

Advanced Art students, Maggie Adams ’20, Edward Ahn ’20, Raphe Ayres ’20, Darwin Holcombe ’20, Gary Huang ’20, Cedar Jones ’20, Caroline Keller ’20, Alex Paluszek ’20 and Siyang Wang ’20 all created bowls that were donated for the event. Vermont Academy students also helped to set up the event. Alumnus Sarah Campbell ’80 is the board chair for Our Place.
