Wildcats Make History

Win First Ever Lakes Region Championship 2-1 over KUA
 
#3 Vermont traveled up to #1 Kimball Union for the Lakes Region Championship game at 6:30 pm. In their previous meetings this season they tied 1-1 on January 17 in Saxtons River, VT and Vermont won 2-1 on February 16th in Meriden, NH. Skodova earned her second straight start in net and her 19th of the season.

The first period was a battle with both teams producing some quality scoring opportunities. Both goalies stood tall turning away every shot they faced.

Vermont opened the second period with a bang, scoring in the first shift on the power play. Kristyna Kaltounkova ‘20 snuck the puck by the KUA goalie. Lotti Odnoga ‘18 assisted on the goal. Seven minutes later Chloe Aurard ‘18 put Vermont up by two on the power play beating the goalie glove side. Kaltounkova was credited with the assist. KUA responded with three minutes left in the period sneaking one by Skodova.

In the third period, Vermont played defensively in order to maintain the lead. Holly Meredith ‘18, Klara Jandusikova ‘20, and Syd Royce ‘18 shut down the KUA offense. Skodova helped by turning away all of the shots she faced.

Skodova finished the night with 21 saves. The Wildcats made history earning their first Lakes Region Title in program history. Vermont is back in action on Wednesday, February 28th in the NEPSAC Quarterfinal, the opponent, place and time are TBD.
