Wildcats Down Rams on Senior Night

The Wildcats played host for a Lakes Region matchup against the Tilton Rams on Senior Night at the Chouk. The two teams hadn’t met yet this season, as the first game was canceled due to a snowstorm. Thus, tonight's game counted as two for the Lakes Region standings.

The Wildcats recognized their six seniors for their contributions to the Vermont Academy hockey program, listed below:

#1 Blanka Skodova, Goalie
Blanka joined the VA community this fall as a postgraduate from Sternberk, Czech Republic. Before VA Blanka played for the U20 AA Boy’s Team LHK Jestrabi Prostejov. She has added depth in net and proved to be an impact player with a 14-1-1 record this season. She currently leads DII goaltenders with a .946 save percentage. She has played 797 minutes thus far compiling 462 saves and only 26 goals against. She is pursuing various options for her future.

#4 Maddie Paydos, Forward
Maddie is a three-year senior hailing from Simsbury, CT. While a part of the VA community Maddie has not only been a member of the ice hockey team, but also the soccer and lacrosse teams as well. She contributes her success at VA to the small nurturing community. Over her three years as a Wildcat, Maddie has posted 16 goals, and 18 assists for 34 points, this year she has a career-high 15 points. Next year, Maddie will be a student-athlete at Utica College as a member of the Women’s Ice Hockey team.

#5 Holly Meredith, Defense
Holly is a four year senior from Saratoga Springs, NY. While at VA Holly has grown into a confident young woman on and off of the ice. She is a proctor in the dorm, captain of the field hockey team, and a strong lacrosse player. On the ice, Holly has been a shutdown defenseman. Over her career as a Wildcat, she has contributed 3 goals and 19 assists for 22 points. This season she has a career-high 11 points. Holly is pursuing various options for next year.

#12 Chloe Aurard, Forward
Chloe is at VA this year for her fourth year as a postgraduate from Villard de Lans, France. Over her course of time at VA, she has learned a lot; from speaking English to playing soccer. Chloe captained the soccer team the past two years, and lead them to back to back NEPSAC Championships. On the ice, Chloe has totaled 195 points, 122 goals, and 73 assists. This year she has a career-high 93 points.  Next year, Chloe is attending Northeastern University and will be a member of the Women’s Ice Hockey team.

#14 Lotti Odnoga, Defense
Lotti is a three year senior from Gyor, Hungary. While at VA Lotti learned that great things happen when you step out of your comfort zone. Lotti helped backstop soccer team to back to back NEPSAC Championships. She has been an offensive spark on the Wildcats blue line contributing 51 goals and 49 assists for 100 points. She has a career-high 54 points this season. Next year, Lotti will be an ivy student-athlete at Dartmouth College as part of the Big Green Women’s Ice Hockey team.

#17 Sydney Royce, Defense
Sydney is a two-year senior hailing from New Rochelle, NY. Over her two years at VA Syd has been a force on the field hockey and lacrosse fields, as well as on the ice. Syd has helped lead this year’s team by being a go-to defenseman. During her career, she has totaled four goals and 13 assists for 17 points. This year she has a career-high 13 points. Next year, Syd will be a student-athlete at Nichols College (MA) as a member of the Women’s Ice Hockey team.

Game Recap

Skodova earned the start in net, her seventeenth of the season. The first period the Wildcats came out strong. Chloe Aurard ‘18 opened the scoring five minutes into the game. Assisted by Kristyna Kaltounkova ‘20 and Jaz Creamer ‘21. At the end of the period Lotti Odnoga ‘18 recorded her first of the game on a slap shot from the point that beat the goalie glove side, Aurard was credited with the assist.

During the second period, Vermont kept rolling adding five more goals.

In the third period, Meredith added the lone goal to finish out the scoring. Klara Jandusikova ‘20 and Sophie Streed ‘19 assisted.

Skodova finished the afternoon with 28 saves and her fourth career shutout. Odnoga recorded her 100th career point as a Wildcat and now sits at 104. Aurard and Kaltounkova had four points on the night. Meredith finished with a season-high two points, a goal and assist. Five other Wildcats each recorded a point, as well.

Vermont is back in action for their last regular season game on Wednesday, February 21st at Brewster for a 3:30 pm puck drop.
