VA Beats NMH

Vermont traveled down I-91 to Div. 1 #9 Northfield Mount Hermon (NMH) for a 5:00 pm matchup before the Long Weekend. Blanka Skodova ‘18 earned the start in net for the Wildcats, her thirteenth of the season.

The first period was filled with end to end play with both teams battling all over the ice. Vermont was able to capitalize first on the power play. Kristyna Kaltounkova ‘20 beat the NMH goalie down low. Chloe Aurard ‘18 and Syd Royce ‘18 were credited with the assists. NMH would respond in the last minute of the period to tie the game going into the second.

Vermont would strike first in the second period. The goal coming from Aurard, unassisted on the power play. Kaltounkova added another a minute later to put the Wildcats up by two. Lotti Odnoga ‘18 and Aurard with the assists.

NMH opened the scoring in the third four minutes in. The period was sprinkled with penalties for both teams. At one point NMH had a two-man advantage, however, the VA penalty kill and Skodova were able to shut them down. Later in the period, VA had a two-man advantage. Odnoga was able to finish on the back door from an Aurard feed.

Skodova finished the night with 23 saves. Holly Meredith ‘18 received the game puck for her consistent play and hard work. Royce, Skodova, and Klara Jandusikova ‘20 all got shoutouts. It was the first time VA has beaten NMH since the 2010-11 season. 

The Wildcats are back in action on Wednesday, February 7th at Tilton School for a 3:00 pm puck drop. Enjoy the Long Weekend Cats!
