Vermont Bounces Back to Top Proctor

The Wildcats faced off against Lakes Region foe Proctor Academy at the Chouk at 3:00 pm. Earlier in the season, Vermont topped the Hornets 2-1 in overtime. Blanka Skodova ‘18 earned the start between the pipes for the Wildcats, her twelfth of the season.

The first period opened with both teams coming out strong and battling all over the ice. Right away, Skodova made a couple big saves. Vermont was able to capitalize first on a strong shift from Jaz Creamer ‘21, Chloe Aurard ‘19, Kristyna Kaltounkova ‘20, Klara Jandusikova ‘20, and Holly Meredith ‘18. They maintained possession in the offensive zone, creating quality scoring opportunities, and were able to capitalize on one. Aurard passed the puck to Creamer in the slot, who ripped a shot that deflected off of Kaltounkova. The Hornets would respond later in the period sneaking one by Skodova.

Both teams continued to battle throughout the second period, which remained scoreless. The Hornets and Wildcats headed into the third still tied 1-1. Throughout the third period Vermont was able to generate multiple scoring opportunities, however, Proctor’s goalie made some tremendous saves. It was not until three minutes left in the game when Aurard would be the goalie short side near the post off of a rush. Kaltounkova and Lotti Odnoga ‘18 were credited with the assists. Skodova shut down the Proctor offense in the remainder of the game, even when Proctor pulled their goalie. Skodova finished the night with 23 saves.

Before the game, Syd Royce ‘18 verbally committed to Nichols College. She will join the Bison next fall, they play in the Colonial Hockey Conference (DIII). Vermont is back in action on Friday, February 2nd at home against Albany Academy at 5:30.
