Team Effort Tops Brewster

Vermont played their second Lakes Region game of the week against Brewster Academy. Puck drop was bumped back until 6:00 pm due to a delay in the game before. Sarah Jacobelli ‘19 earned the start in net, her twelfth of the season.

The Wildcats came out strong and scored in the first three minutes of the game. Kristyna Kaltounkova ’20 received a pass from Syd Royce ’18 skated down the right side of the ice and beat the goalie over the shoulder, for her first since returning from the World Junior Championships. Not long after the Bobcats responded on the power play to tie the game. However, Lotti Odnoga ’18 did not approve as she scored a minute later to put the Wildcats back on top.

The second period was filled with end to end play with both teams generating scoring opportunities. Vermont was able to capitalize on one of those opportunities as Jordan Loya ’20 skated around the net with the puck and passed it behind her back into the slot for Kaltounkova to skate onto and bury.

Vermont would be able to continue the momentum into the third period as they added two more goals to close out the game. Both goals came within 20 seconds of each other. The first Jaz Creamer ’21 tipped a Kaltounkova shot to beat the goalie. Klara Jandusikova ’20 was credited with the second assist. Kaltounkova and Jandusikova would connect again on the fifth goal from Sophie Streed ’19.

Seven different Wildcats registered points truly making the win a team effort. Royce, Streed, and Loya all played integral roles in the Wildcat’s success. Jacobelli finished the night with 22 saves. The Wildcats will face off against the Bobcats again on Wednesday, February 21st at Brewster.

The Wildcats will take the road tomorrow down to Groton School for a 4:00 pm match up against the Zebras.
