Wildcats Matchup Ends in a Draw

Vermont suited up for a 4:00 pm Lakes Region matchup against rival #5 Kimball Union (KUA). Skodova earned the start between the pipes for the Wildcats, her ninth of the season.

The first period KUA came out flying and stunned VA, however, Vermont was able to battle and capitalize on their first power play of the game when KUA took a major penalty. About two minutes into the power play Vermont scored when Chloe Aurard ’18 passed the puck to Lotti Odnoga ’18 who took a shot from the point that went over the goalie's shoulder, Jaz Creamer ’21 was screening in front. Later in the period VA took a major penalty but was able to kill it off.

The second period was sprinkled throughout with penalties to both teams. Neither team was able to capitalize on their opportunities. Skodova stood tall facing eleven shots.

VA headed into the third period up 1-0 and battled to keep the lead. However, their efforts were not enough as KUA capitalized with 15 seconds left on a 6-4 man advantage to send the game into overtime.

In the five minute overtime KUA had a few quality scoring chances, however, Skodova was there every time to shut them down.  She finished the game with 36 saves on 37 shots. Syd Royce ’18 also played an outstanding game anchoring the defense.The Wildcats will face off again on Friday, February 16th, when Vermont takes the road up to KUA for a 6:30 pm puck drop.

Vermont is home again on Friday for another Lakes Region matchup against the Brewster Bobcats at 5:00 pm.
