Wildcats Move to 18-0-1

Vermont traveled down to Millbrook School for a 5:00 pm matchup against the Mustangs. Sarah Jacobelli ’19 picked up the start in net for the Wildcats, her eleventh of the season.

VA took a couple minutes to get settled into the game though once they did the period was filled with end to end play. Chloe Aurard ’18 capitalized first on the power play off of a Lotti Odnoga ’18 feed. Odnoga found Aurard alone in the slot for a deke to continue her point streak to 19 games. Towards the end of the period, Aurard and Odnoga connected again, this time for an Odnoga goal. Aurard maintained possession in the offensive zone and passed to Odnoga who ripped a shot off of the post and into the net, for her fifteenth of the season.

The Mustangs controlled the beginning of the second getting a few quality scoring opportunities, however, Jacobelli stood tall thus allowing the Wildcats to go to work. Aurard scored her second of the game unassisted halfway through the period. The Wildcats continued to generate more offensive opportunities throughout the remainder of the period. Jaz Creamer ’21 was able to capitalize by crashing the net and putting in a Sophie Streed ’19 rebound. Caroline Keller ’20 was credited with the second assist. Millbrook responded three minutes later.

The third period both teams battled back and forth not giving up an inch, until the last five minutes of the game when Millbrook capitalized off of a rebound. Gigi Wood ’20 and Jordan Loya ’20 had tremendous games adding an offensive spark as well as playing sound defense.

Creamer has scored five goals in four games. Jacobelli finished the night with 29 saves. The Wildcats are looking forward to welcoming Kristyna Kaltounkova ’20 and Klara Jandusikova ’20 back from the 2018 IIHF U18 World Junior Tournament, where they were representing the Czech Republic.

Vermont is at home on Wednesday for a Lakes Region matchup against rival Kimball Union (KUA) at 4:00 pm.
