VA Downs Greenwich

The Wildcats suited up for a chilly afternoon tilt against the Greenwich Gators. Skodova earned the start in net, her seventh of the season.

Less than two minutes into the first period, Chloe Aurard ‘18 broke open the scoring for the Wildcats with an unassisted goal. Shortly, after the Wildcats struck again on the power play, a Lotti Odnoga ’18 goal assisted by Aurard. Vermont was not finished for the period, with about four minutes left Aurard put in her second of the game from Maddie Paydos ’18 and Maggie Hodgson ’21.

Vermont opened the second period on the power play and were able to capitalize right away. Moving the puck well around the zone, the Wildcats were able to open up a seam, as Odnoga took a slap shot from the blue line, which was beautifully redirected by Jaz Creamer ’21 in front of the net. Aurard was credited with the second assist. Later in the period, the Wildcats added another, coming once again from Aurard, assisted by Sydney Royce ’18 and Odnoga.

The Wildcats battled in the third period, holding the Gators to one goal on the penalty kill. Skodova stood tall with 20 saves, picking up her seventh win this season, and first of 2018. The Wildcats went 2 for 5 on the power play and killed off 3 of 4 penalties.

VA returns to action on Wednesday, January 10th at home against The Gunnery School. This will be their second matchup of the season, the first resulting in a 3-3 Tie at the Union College Invitational Tournament. Go Wildcats!
