Lakes Region Win to Begin 2018

The Wildcats traveled to Plymouth, NH for a Lakes Region matchup against Holderness School. The game was played at Plymouth State University due to weather conditions. Sarah Jacobelli ’19 earned the start in net, her ninth of the season.

The first period was filled with end to end play, and a handful of quality scoring opportunities. However, Vermont was not able to capitalize until the end of the period, when Chloe Aurard ’18 broke away from the Holderness defenseman, went in and deked the goalie.

Vermont battled in the second period, with Holderness holding strong. The Wildcats were able to capitalize on the power play three minutes into the period with the goal coming from Lotti Odnoga ’18 assisted by Holly Meredith ’18 and Aurard. A short three minutes later Aurard put in her second of the game, unassisted on a breakaway.

Holderness scored first in the third period scoring off of a rebound two minutes into the period. Vermont responded by continuing to battle and never giving up. Maddie Paydos ’18 scored with four minutes left in the game off of a feed from Odnoga and Aurard.

Vermont was down two players due to the 2018 IIHF U18 Women’s World Junior Championships in Moscow, Russia. Klara Jandusikova ’20 and Kristyna Kaltounkova ’20 are representing their home country, Czech Republic. The games begin Saturday, January 6th, 2018 with the Czech Republic facing off against Switzerland.

Sophie Streed ’19 and Sydney Royce ’18 were recognized as the offensive and defensive players of the game, respectively. Jacobelli finished the game with 21 saves. The Wildcats return to action tomorrow at home against Greenwich Academy, puck drop slated for 2:00 pm.
