Wildcats Advance to the Championship

Vermont faced a resilient Winchendon team in the third round robin game of the Edward G. Watkins Holiday Tournament. The Wildcats came out strong immediately forcing the play into the offensive zone. VA opened the scoring six minutes into the game on the power play. Kristyna Kaltounkova ’20 beat the goalie up high; Chloe Aurard ’18 and Jaz Creamer ’21 were credited with the assists. The Wildcats continued to battle the rest of the period putting up seven shots.

Sarah Jacobelli ’19 stood tall in the second period saving all 16 shots she faced. The Wildcats kept grinding playing a defensively sound game shutting down all of Winchendon’s opportunities.  Sophie Streed ’19 helped tremendously on the backcheck, as well as contributing on offense. Aurard continued the scoring in the second of a feed from Kaltounkova.

Aurard and Kaltounkova connected again in the third period for the third goal of the game. Vermont continued to test the Winchendon goalie putting up ten shots in the third the most of the game. Lotti Odnoga ’18 scored the final goal of the game with 14 seconds left to secure the number one seed in the Fisher division.

Jacobelli ’19 was rewarded with the game puck for recording her third shutout of the season. The Wildcats will face off against New Hampton, the top team in the Iorio Division, at 2:00 pm tomorrow (December 16, 2017).
