Aurard Helps VA Top the Bears

The Wildcats opened day two of the Edward G. Watkins Holiday Tournament against a tough Berkshire team. Vermont opened the scoring four minutes into the game when Chloe Aurard ’18 intercepted a Berkshire pass skated the length of the ice beating two defensemen and the goalie for her 14th goal of the season. The remainder of the period was filled with back and forth play, and great saves by Sarah Jacobelli ’19 in net.

The second period was a battle, Vermont scored halfway through on the power play. Kristyna Kaltounkova ’20 found Lotti Odnoga ’18 on the back door for a one-timer; Aurard was credited with the second assist. Berkshire quickly responded by scoring less than a minute later. Aurard continued the scoring for Vermont with three minutes left in the period. Vermont headed to the locker room with a 3-1 lead.

Both teams came out strong in the third period. Jacobelli stood tall in net allowing Vermont to focus on offense as they were able to capitalize on three of their opportunities in the third. The first coming from Gigi Wood ’20 off a tip from an Aurard shot. Kaltounkova scored off a feed from Maddie Paydos ’18, and Aurard completed her hat trick with four minutes left in the game. The Wildcats outshot the Bears 34-22.
