Wildcats Skate to a Tie With New Hampton

On Saturday, February 29th the Wildcats headed to New Hampton School for the Lakes Region Consolation game at 4 p.m.  

Both teams came out strong but tired from their games the night before. The Wildcats were able to score first in the middle of the first period on a shot from Kaltounkova ’20. She collected the puck from Brooks ’23 in our defensive zone and skated into the offensive zone put a shot on net that went over the New Hampton goalie’s shoulder. Jandusikova ’20 was credited with the second assist. 

The second period was scoreless with both goalies making some big saves for their teams. The Huskies outshot the Wildcats, however, Segui ’21 was in the zone saving all of their shots. In the third period, the Huskies were able to capitalize on a 2-1 with a top-shelf goal to tie the game. The five minute overtime remained scoreless with both teams generating some scoring opportunities. Segui ’21 made 48 saves in net for the Wildcats. 

Vermont Academy has clinched the #5 seed in the Dorothy Howard Small School Tournament and will travel back to #4 New Hampton on Wednesday, March 4 for a 4 p.m. puck drop. Both matchups between the Wildcats and Huskies have gone into overtime this season.
