VA Freeski Dares for Greatness...

Marks
VA Freeski competes in their 4th Lakes Region slopestyle event of the season at Mt. Snow today.
Having spent the first half of the season hovering around 2nd/3rd place as a team, the Freeski Wildcats spent last week leaping from comfort zones and smashing boxes.  Every member of the team learned something new on jumps, and in today's slopestyle event at Mt. Snow -- versus BBA, WMS, KUA, Holderness, Proctor, and New Hampton -- we decided it would be way more fulfilling and worthy to dare for greatness.  The skiers decided that trying newer, riskier, more difficult tricks would be the move, over the safe, garunteed runs of yesterweek.  For some it worked, for example Graesyn Scruton landed his first ever cork 7 in competition to land in 8th place and first in our team scoring.  For others, it failed to come together, resulting in falls in both runs.  Our less experienced team members were there to pick up the slack, however, with Logan Willett and Jaime Aparicio landing their runs and making it into scoring position.  We placed 6th out of 7 as a team, but I would not have coached them any other way.  The team's effort, attitude, and willingness to reach for their potential made me happy and proud today.
