Hornets Sting Wildcats In Overtime

Vermont Academy boys' hockey team traveled to Proctor Academy this afternoon for a 3:30 pm Lakes Region match up.
Proctor has their sights on a key second place finish in the Lakes Region while Vermont, who is out of a playoff spot, can play the spoiler role.

Proctor struck first blood just 4:40 in to the game when Peter Laviolette first a snap shot from the top of the left circle past Vermont's goaltender, Henry Dennee '17 (Chandler, AZ).  Dennee would shut the door on the Hornets the rest of the period.

The second period was just the reverse with Vermont scoring the only goal of the period.  John Peloso '19 (Townshend, VT) would score on a breakaway while on the power play.  Peloso would get a pass from Nathan Smith '17 (Wildwood, MO) in the neutral zone that sent him in on the Proctor goaltender from the blue line.  The score at the end of the period would be all tied up and anyone's game for the third.

Proctor would regain the lead at the 12:42 mark of the third when Jake Pappalardo would find a way to wrist the puck past Dennee.  Vermont's Peloso would not stay idle scoring the equalizer 3:41 later.  Peloso would disappear in the play while John Kondub '19 (Monroe, CT) would carry the puck in the offensive zone to allow Peloso to reappear on the backdoor of the net to receive Kondub's pass and fire it to the back of the net.  The teams would finish regulation tied at two.

In overtime both teams would have chances but with 42 seconds left Laviolette would find a loos puck on the door step and jam it home for the win.

Proctor's Connor Simpson would make 24 saves on 26 shots for the win while Vermont's Dennee would stop 30 of 33 for the loss.

Vermont (8-20-4 overall, 0-9-1 Lakes Region) will look to bounce back tomorrow when they host Brewster Academy at 6:00 pm at Choukas Arena for their Winter Carnival game.
