Vermont Academy boys' hockey team came up short today while hosting New Hampton School in a Lakes Region match up at Vermont Choukas Arena.
It was the second of their two game series this season with New Hampton holding the upper hand winning the first game 3-1.Tonight New Hampton would best the previous score by one, 4-1.
New Hampton would score two first period goals less than one minute apart.The first goal coming at the 12:53 off the stick of Cullin Cosgrove and Jakov Novak would score their second goal at 11:58.
The second period was more of the same, New Hampton would be the only team record a goal.Novak would score his second of the night at 11:05 of the period to give New Hampton a 3-0 lead.That is the way the second period would finish.
New Hampton would find the back of the net first again in the third period when Cole Anderson added an insurance goal at the 8:59 mark of the period.Vermont would fight until the final buzzer and get a bounce when Taylor Mellon '17 (Park City, UT) was able to jam home a rebound at the 1:01 mark.Mellon's goal would break up New Hampton's Jacob Burhans shutout.
New Hampton would take the Lakes Region game by a score of 4-1.Burhans would record the victory and 29 saves on 30 shots while Josh Bolding '16 (Calgary, Alberta) stopped 32 of 36 shots in the loss.
Vermont (8-19-4 overall, 0-8-1 Lakes Region) will travel to Proctor Academy on Friday, February 19 for a 3:00 pm Lakes Region contest.
