Vermont Academy boys' hockey team hosted Winchendon School Friday evening at Choukas Arena in non conference NEPSAC action. The teams would compete hard for a 1-1 tie.
Vermont's Houston Wilson '16 (Philadelphia, PA) would start the scoring in the first period on the power play.Winchendon would play tight defense on the trio of Max McLaughlin '16 (Westmoreland, NH) , John Kondub '19 (Monroe, CT) and Wilson but the three would stay tight and protect the puck until they found an opening to attack the net.Wilson, in the end, would reap the benefits of their puck protection to find himself to the right side of the net and rifle the pusck past Winchendon's goaltender Josh George.Vermont would take a 1-0 lead in to the first intermission as that was the only goal of the period.
After a scoreless second period the teams would come out for the third with high energy.Winchendon's Maxime Cote would strike from the corner with a shot that would roll up Vermont's goaltenders, Josh Bolding's '16 (Calgary, Alberta), shoulder and fall behind him in the net to tie the score 1-1.The rest of the period would be back and forth but no one could find a way to beat either goaltender.
Both teams would play fast in the overtime but no one could gain enough possession to get a shot on net.
Winchendon would outshoot Vermont 35-29 on the night.
Vermont (8-17-4 overall, 0-7-1 Lakes Region) will lace up their skates tomorrow when they host Academy St. Louis (Quebec) at 3:00 pm on campus at Choukas Arena.
