Vermont Mounts A Comeback But It's Not Enough

Vermont Academy boys' hockey team hosted Bishop's College School from Quebec this Wednesday afternoon at Choukas Arena.
This would be the first meeting of the two schools in each of their histories.  Bishops joined the NEPSAC as an associate member this year.

Bishops was able to get on the scoreboard first in the first period when Zach Bennett took a shot from the point that was blocked by Jack Raleigh '16 (Swanton, VT) but the puck had eyes and trickled past Ryan Strickland '16 (Marlow, NH).  Vermont would mount an attack for the rest of the period and threw everything at Bishop's goaltender, Justin Trudeau.

Bishop's would win the second period as well by a score of 4-2 receiving goals from Zach Kaiser, Leon Taberlet and two from Alex Brisson.  Bishop's biggest lead was 5-1 with the one goal coming off of the stick of Raleigh on the penalty kill.  The goal would present itself when Raleigh would clear the puck from his defensive zone to an area that Max McLaughlin '16 (Westmoreland, NH) could pick it up in stride and cross the blue line on a two on one with Raleigh.  McLaughlin would slide the puck acrosst eh slot where Raleigh would make no mistakes by one timing it past Trudeau.  Vermont would game back another goal when Tanner Dalton '16 (Bakersfield, CA) would fire a John Peloso '19 (Townshend, VT) pass past Trudeau with 2:51 left in the second period.  The score at the end of the period would be 5-2.

Vermont would make a goaltender change for the third period putting in Josh Bolding '16 (Calgary, Alberta) to help backstop the team and allow desperate hockey to take over.  They threw everything at Trudeau and he finally broke on another shorthanded goal.  This time is was Houston Wilson '16 (Philadelphia, PA) with his best Connor McDavid impression.  Wilson would pick up a pass from Noah Wing '16 (Nantucket, MA) in the defensive zone and he would go to work.  Bishop's players swarmed him and he magically stickhandled through three players and was all alone with Trudeau.  With a little head fake he opened up Trudeau's five hole and he slid it through.  Two minutes later Wilson would be in the slot to pot another goal for the Wildcats.  This time taking the pass from Jeremy Nadeau-Fortin '16 (Granby, Quebec).  Nadeau-Fortin would hustle out of the corner with the puck and slid it to Wilson who slammed it five hole once again.

Vermont would put the pressure on for the last six minutes of the game but could not squeak one more goal past Trudeau.

Because of Vermont's slow start they would be outshot 32-25 with Strickland facing 21 shots and Bolding facing Bishop's last 11 shots.

Vermont (8-17-3 overall, 0-7-1 Lakes Region) will look to get back on track this Friday, February 12 at home versus Winchendon School.  Game time is 5:00 pm at Choukas Arena.
