Cushing was able to get on the scoreboard first when Dakota Mulcay beat Vermont's goaltender, Josh Bolding '16 (Calgary, Alberta).Bolding would stop the first shot but Mulcay would get his own rebound and wrap it around the net to the other side.Vermont did not back down and evened the score at one when Ethan Wing '17 (Nantucket, MA) would zip a neutral zone pass up to Houston Wilson '16 (Philadelphia, PA) who would beat a Cushing defender and then deke their goaltender silly.The period would finish in a 1-1 tie.
Vermont would took control of the second period getting chances early and capitalizing on a Tanner Dalton '16 (Bakersfield, CA)pass of the goaltenders pad was John Kondub '19 (Monroe, CT).Vermont would take the lead and hold on to it for the rest of the period and into the third.
The third period would be more of the same for Vermont.They would get their chances but Cushing's goaltender Joey Halstrom kept turning away all the Wildcat shots.At the 8:59 mark of the period Cushing would get a break and tie the game up.Ashton Fry would tip the puck past a screened Bolding.Then less than two minutes later they would take the lead off of the stick of Noah Kim.Vermont would not quit and kept their energy up and pressed to tie the game up but they just could not get a bounce.Cushing would finish the game by scoring an empty net goal with two seconds left on the clock to make the final score 4-2.
Cushing would outshoot Vermont 46-32 with Holstrom taking home the victory.
Vermont (8-16-3 overall, 0-7-1 Lakes Region) will host Bishops College on Wednesday, February 10 at Choukas Arena at 4:30 pm in another non-conference NEPSAC battle.
