The Vermont Academy Boys' Hockey Team made a consistent push all game but fell short at the final buzzer giving Brewster Academy their first win of the season Wednesday evening in Wolfeboro, NH.
After a scoreless first period both teams went in tot heir respective locker rooms knowing that this game could go either way with a lucky bounce. And that is just what it took for Brewster to get on the board at the 6:27 mark of the second period.Daniel Jayson would grab the puck in transition and step in over the blueline and fire it on net to find Vermont's Josh Bolding '16 (Calgary, ALB) screened and never saw it.Brewster would increase their lead at the 2:00 mark of the second period to 2-0 when Vermont left Anthony Cieri all alone in front of Bolding.Vermont made one last push in the period when Houston Wilson '16 (Phildelphia, PA) went on a breakaway but he was denied by Brewster's Alex Reissis.
Vermont would get on the board early in the third period when Samuel Savard '16 (St. Jean-Chrysostome, QUE) chipped a puck to Wilson who would pass it to Leighton Nimey (New Hartford,NY).Nimey and Wilson would go down on a 2-1 with Nimey focused on the net and using Wilson as a decoy he fired it in to the top right corner to give the Wildcats the spark they were looking for.
Vermont (0-1-0 overall; 0-1-0 Lakes Region) had plenty of opportunities the rest of the game, hitting posts and having two power plays late but just could not solve Reissis. The Wildcats would fight all the way to the final buzzer but would fall short.
Vermont's Bolding would record 23 saves on 25 shots while Reissis would make 19 of 20 stops for the win.
The Wildcats will travel to Kimball Union Academy next on Saturday, December 5 for a 4:30 pm Lakes Region matchup.
