In the second game of the weekend, the Wildcats faced off with Rice Memorial from Burlington, VT on Saturday morning. Rice plays in the North American Prep Hockey Association (NAPHA), this was the first matchup between the Knights and Wildcats in a couple of years.
The game was intense and back and forth. Rice opened the scoring, however, Vermont did not give up and was able to fight back scoring their first power-play goal of the season. Walsh ’22 took a shot that hit the post and Creamer ’21 crashed the net to bury the rebound. Vermont’s second goal was scored by Kaltounkova ’20 with an assist from Brooks ’23.
Heading into the third Rice was ahead 3-2. Though, Vermont’s power-play unit got back to work scoring adding another to tie the game at three apiece. Kaltounkova ’20 had the goal with a feed from Jandusikova ’20. Unfortunately, the Wildcats were unable to hold on to the tie as Rice scored with less than five to go in the game. The Wildcats tried to tie it up once again but were unable to as the clock wound down. Paquin ’22 suffered her first loss of the season.
The Wildcats look to bounce back against The Gunnery tonight at Yale University. Puck drop at 6:45 p.m.
