Cardigan hosts race #2 of the 2018 Mt Bike season

John Kelly
140 riders from 14 schools met at the fun, flowy trails of Cardigan Mountain School. It was a beautiful early fall day for racing and everyone brought their A games. VA riders Graesyn Scruton, Maurice Day, Gary Huang, and Miles Macnichol all lined up in the very competitive B race. Grae, Maurice, and Miles blasted out of the start and were all in the top 10 early on. As the race progresses miles had to withdraw due to an inspection lap injury being aggravated. Maurice and Grae continued to battle with Grae finishing 5th and Maurice in 10th. A big shout out goes to Gary Huang who rode very well considering he had just completed a 280 mile bike ride from Boston to NYC 3 days ago to help raise money for AIDS research. In the C race our top finisher was CMS alum Colin Dowling in 30th and Sammy Paprin in 53rd.Competing in his first ever bike race Edward Ahn persevered to a solid 59th place finish. Shane Xiong also rode very well in his new sport to finish in 67th. Thanks to the CMS crew for running a fun, challenging event.Next week we travel to Woodstock for our 3rd race of the season. In the meantime, this weekend, 3 VA riders and 2 coaches will be racing in the wonderful test of man and machine known as the Vermont 50 mt bike race in Brownsville VT.
