Chris Ardito Joins VA as Head Girls’ Varsity Hockey Coach
"Together we will be able to build upon this past season to continue Vermont Academy's success on the ice." --Savanna Poole, Assistant Coach, Girls' Varsity Ice Hockey
Vermont Academy is pleased to announce the hiring of Christopher Ardito as head girls’ varsity hockey coach. Ardito will also serve VA as a member of the Admissions team.
Ardito is currently working as an assistant and goal coach with Yale University varsity women’s hockey, as well as serving as a partner and head instructor with Connecticut Crease, a private goalie training facility.
“Chris was our top choice for this position,” said Dr. Jennifer Zaccara, Vermont Academy’s head of school, “and we are thrilled to have him join us. He had across the board support from our interview committee and from the girls on the team. As a key member of our admissions team, Chris will be recruiting hockey players as well as athletes and all-around great girls and boys for Vermont Academy.”
Chris’s network of connections on the college level through his coaching experience and his goalie training business will enable our girls to have strong support from the hockey program at Vermont Academy.
"I am very excited to begin working with Chris,” said Savanna Poole, assistant girls’ varsity hockey coach. “I believe he brings a wealth of knowledge from his experience working with Yale as well as Connecticut Crease. I feel that together we will be able to build upon this past season to continue Vermont Academy's success on the ice."
There is great enthusiasm for Ardito among the players as well. Forward Kristyna Kaltounkova '20 said, “He was honest, he was nice, and I think he is going to be a great coach and a great fit with our culture and our hockey family.”
He is a graduate of Southern Connecticut State University, where he was the assistant coach and goal coach for the SCSU Ice Owls. The Ice Owls made the ACHA tournament in each of his first three years at a coach, making two regional appearances and one national appearance, including a single season record of 25-1 in 2011-12.
In high school, he played for Notre Dame High of Fairfield, CT where he had a career GAA of 1.47, including a state-leading 1.25 during his junior year. He was named to the South-West Conference all-tournament team in 2004. He went on to play Junior Hockey for the Connecticut Lazers.
Ardito will officially join our community on July 1, 2018. We look forward to his arrival!
