McDonald Makes 42 Saves
Vermont Academy boys hockey team traveled to Millbrook, NY to play a non conference game against NEPSAC small school opponent Millbrook School. Vermont (11-9-3 Overall, 5-2-1 Lakes Region) started well but an early goal by Millbrook put the Wildcats on their heels.   Millbrook score first on the power play at less than a minute in to the game. Millbrook's Zach Taylor was able to get a wrist shot underneath the crossbar on Vermont's goaltender, Brandon McDonald '18 (Santa Clarita, CA). Millbrook stayed on top until Nick Rashkovsky '19 (Northridge, CA) at the 4:44 mark of the first period. The period would end with the score knotted at one. The second period was scoreless but it was a strong by both teams with both goalies playing well. The third period Millbrook would take the lead 2-1 when Greg Koutsomitis beat McDonald at the 14:21 of the period. Millbrook would add another goal at the 11:57 mark by Ryan Pitoscia to take firm 3-1 lead. Vermont would put on the pressure to try and close the gap but they could not solve Millbrooks goaltender, Cam Fernandez. Vermont would take one last shot to score by pulling McDonald but a miscontrolled puck ended up on the stick on Millbrook's Kevin Drevitch and passed it in to the open net to increase their lead to 4-1. That would be the final score. On the night McDonald made 42 saves and Fernandez made 21 saves.   Vermont will suit up next on Tuesday, January 30 at Proctor Academy in a Lakes Region match up at 4:00 pm.
