The Vermont Academy boys' hockey traveled down Interstate 91 to play Williston Northampton this afternoon at 4:30 pm. Vermont (10-6-2 Overall, 5-1-1 Lakes Region) got on the board first but gave away the lead and could never regain it.
Vermont got on the board first, while on the power play, when Nathan Smith '18 (Wildwood, MO) redirected a pass from Calvin Moise '18 (St. Eustache, QUE) 10:48 in to the game. Most of the play for the first period was back and forth except for the last three minutes which is when Williston took advantage of a couple Vermont mistakes. Williston would score two goals late in the period just 61 seconds apart. Williston's James Belleavoine would strip the puck from a Vermont Defenseman to beat Dylan Regan '18 (Acton, MA) and Kyle Caddo would take liberties on the Vermont defense to use them as a screen to beat Regan. The first period would finish with Williston leading 2-1.
The second period was all Williston as they score four unanswered goals to increase their lead to 6-1. Williston's David Novotny would score the first two goals of the period at the 1:49 and 14:14 mark of the period. Connor Canterbury would score 62 second later followed by Samuel Milnes 55 second after that. Regan had enough for one day as Coach Davidson would pull him at the end of the period.
Vermont would come to play in the third period and winning the 18 minute game 1-0. Smith would get his second goal of the game assisted by Moise and Peloso. Brandon McDonald '18 (Santa Clarita, CA) would take over for Regan in net and shut the door on Williston stopping all 10 shots he faced.
Regan and McDonald would combined to stop 26 of 32 shots and Williston's Alex Rogers stopped 15 of the 17 shots he faced in the winning effort.
Vermont is home on Friday, January 19 hosting Lakes Region's New Hampton School at 3:00 pm at Choukas Arena.
