Freeski Wildcats First Slopestyle of the Season

The Freeski Wildcats traveled north into the Whites of New Hampshire on Wednesday for our first slopestyle of the season at Cannon Mountain, hosted by White Mountain School.
The entire league was in attendance--Proctor, Burr and Burton, KUA, Holderness, WMS, New Hampton, and VA, with 49 boys and 6 girls competing.

Our young team posted an impressively strong finish in second place, behind Holderness, beating all of our performances from the 2016-17 season. Also unexpected was our top four skiers' choice to hit the big jump line, considering that Okemo, our home mountain, has not yet opened any jumps for us to have trained on.

Graesyn Scruton, Jai Hunter, Taylor Hennum, and Carl Grumbine landed in scoring position with beautifully executed runs containing 360's, a backflip, a switch 180, a backside 270 that made the crowd "oooh," and a stunning 180 over the 55 footer. Our rookie contingent of Jaime Aparicio, Graciano Vazquez, Rafa Camara, and Logan Willett surprised themselves not only with what they could accomplish on jumps, but with how many competitors they could beat. Jaime bested close to half of the field, while Grac landed in the 30's.

A fire has been lit, and the team is eager to see how much they can improve by next week's comp at Sunapee.
