Vermont Academy Participates in the Eastern Collegiate Cycling Conference (ECCC)

Lakes Region Mountain Biking has been growing in popularity, as has the event of Enduro Mountain Bike Racing. The Lakes Region coaches decided to offer an optional non league scored Enduro event this year in conjunction with Highland Mountain Bike Park in Northfield, NH. Highland is a mountain bikers dream and the host to several major events including The Battle of Hellion and previously The Red Bull Claymore Challenge featuring the best mountain bike slope style riders in the world. On October 8 two of our more experienced riders travelled to Highland with Coach Kelly to ride in the event, which was sanctioned by the Eastern Collegiate Cycling Conference. Graesyn Scruton '19 and Taylor Hennum '20 spent the morning inspecting and riding the three stages in preparation for the event. When the dust settled Graesyn rode to a solid 14th place and Taylor finished in 15th. Weekend highlights included Graesyn launching 30' jumps on Power Hour in the rain, and Taylor riding true dirt jumps for the first time and getting the entire small double jump line in Lower Sherwood Forest on lock!  We are looking forward to our return to Highland for the Lakes Region XC Championships on 10/29.
