Vermont and Rice Skate To A Tie

Vermont Academy boys' hockey team and Rice Prep skated to a tie in the battle of Vermont at Choukas Arena.
The only two boarding schools in the state play each year swapping home venues each year to see who hold the bragging rights for the state.

Rice's Samuel Begin started to scoring late in the first period on the power play when beat Vermont's Josh Bolding '16 (Calgary, Alberta) high on his glove side.  Begin's goal was a power play goal.  Rice would take their 1-0 lead into the first intermission.

Vermont would dominate the second period getting chance after chance but it took a while to solve Shea Spanier, Rice's goaltender.  Vermont finally did when Max McLaughlin '16 (Westmoreland, NH) ripped a shot on Spanier and Jack Raleigh '16 (Swanton, VT) crashed the net to jam home the rebound.  Vermont would add a second goal late in the second period when Houston Wilson '16 (Philadelphia, PA) flew down the wing and sniped the water bottle top corner short side.  With Wilson's goal Vermont would take a 2-1 lead into second intermissions.

Vermont would start the third period the way the ended the second by getting chance after chance and John Peloso '19 (Townshend, VT) took advantage of the situation when he beat Spanier with a wrist sot from the slot.  With a two goal cushion the Wildcats kept putting on the pressure but could not grab anymore insurance.  With Vermont having trouble finding the back of the net Rice would take advantage of a power play.  Begin would record his second power play goal of the night but this beating Bolding five hole.  Rice found their scoring touch again with the extra attacker and tied the game up with 27 seconds left to go when Riley Smith's desperation shot found a way to beat Bolding.

Both teams would skate hard in the overtime but know could grab the upper hand.  The game would finish a 3-3 tie and no one has bragging rights to the state this year.

Vermont would outshoot Rice on the night 53-28.
