Farewell To Our Six Seniors As They Close Out Their Season
The Vermont Academy boys' hockey team hosted The Tilton School this afternoon in a Lakes region matchup and for their Senior Night. The six seniors are Mike Belliveau '17 (Madison, CT), Hayden Dalton '17 (Bakersfield, CA), Tanner Dalton '17 (Bakersfield, CA), Guy Piccolo '17 (Fairfield, CT), Ethan Wing '17 (Nantucket, CA) and Tyus Watson-Tummings '17 (Montreal, QUE). Each one of these young men have left a lasting impression on the school and the hockey program.
Tilton struck first blood delivering on a short-handed opportunity when Seth Murray be Piccolo. Vermont would strike back with a short-handed goal of their own when Calvin Moise '18 (St. Eustache, QUE) got a breakout pass from Karl-Antoine Girard '18 (Sherbrooke, QUE) and took the puck end to end pulling up short of the goal line and firing it past Brendan Benoit. Tilton would not sit idle as Callahan Johnson broke the time with 7:15 left to go in to the first period.
For the first 12 minutes of the period both teams were held scoreless until Moise beat Benoit for his second goal of the afternoon. Moise would receive a pass across the top of the circles from Nathan Smith '17 (Wildwood, MO)and Moise would make no mistakes with his quick release to the top shelf underneath the crossbar. Vermont would not have the momentum for long as Tilton found a way to beat Piccolo with 1;46 left in the second period when Murray would grab his second goal of the game.
In the final stanza Tilton would take a 4-2 lead when Andrew Somerville wristed one past Piccolo. Vermont would cut the lead to 4-3 when Robbie Ferreira '18 (Salem, NH) scored the second short-handed goal of the night for the Wildcats by driving wide and gaining a step on the Tilton defender. Vermont would get a power play but it proved to be fatal as Tilton was able to get their second short-handed goal from Murray which was his third on the afternoon and for his Hat Trick. Murray's goal seemed to close the door on a comeback for the Wildcats. The game would finish with Tilton taking victory 5-3.
Benoit woud claim victory stopping 24 of 27 shots while Piccolo stopped 23 of 28 shots for the loss.
Vermont (15-18-3 overall, 1-10-1 Lakes Region) has completed their season and would like to thank all the parents, family members and VA Community for all their support during the winter season, thank you.
