Vermont Academy Wildcats returned to action on Saturday afternoon at home against a gritty squad from Holderness. Although the first period saw no goals there was plenty of back and forth action between the two teams. Vermont Academy tallied 11 attempts on goal while holding Holderness to only 4 shots in the first period. Both teams went to the locker room tied at 0 after the first. The second period was similar to the first in terms of shots but Holderness found the back of the net first against goaltender Anais Aurard ’17. Down 0-1, the Wildcats fought hard with numerous scoring opportunities but only could find the back of the net with a minute remaining in the second period. The puck was pushed past the Holderness goalie on a rebound by Fred Creighton ’18 and the assist was credited to Chloe Aurard ’17. The two teams once again went into the locker room tied, this time at 1-1. VA once again outshot Holderness in the second period 13-5. Only a minute and thirty seconds into the 3rd period, Holderness took a shot on goal that was redirected past VA’s goalie for the final goal of the game. Once again, VA out shot Holderness in the 3rd period 14-4 but were unable to put one by a strong Holderness goalie. The final score was 1-2. Vermont Academy returns to action on Friday morning at the Deerfield Invitational Holiday Tournament.
