The Vermont Academy boys' hockey team lost to defending Lakes region Champion Kimball Union Academy 7-2 on Saturday night at Choukas Arena in league action.
Vermont (4-1-0 overall, 1-1-0 Lakes Region) got their goals from Tyus Watson-Tummings '17 (Montreal, QUE) and Robbie Ferreira '17 (Salem, NH).
Wildcat goaltender, Brandon McDonald '18 (Santa Clarita, CA), continued his solid play in net, stopping 33 shots in the loss.
Despite an entertaining back and forth game, Vermont wasn't able to muster a goal until 1:20 to go in the period when Watson Tummings took a backhand pass for the slot from Tyler Toole '18 (Hamilton, ONT) and Ethan Wing '17 (Nantucket, MA). Watson-Tummings was along in front of the net where he back-handed the puck past Sean Dynan, KUA Goaltender.
KUA would score first in the second period to make the score 4-1 but Vermont would climb back to cutting the deficit when Ferreira scored to make the score 4-2. Nathan Smith '18 (Wildwood, MO) would do a great job of breaking the puck out and sending it up to Calvin Moise '18 (St. Eustache, QUE) who battled for the puck to shovel it to Ferreira who one timed it past Dynan.
KUA's Roope Hiruonen played very well scoring four goals and adding two assists. He had a point in six of the seven goals they would score on the evening. Dynan truly kept Vermont at bay even when stopping 31 of 33 saves.
Vermont will return to action on Wednesday when they travel to Holderness to play host to Hebron Academy for a neutral site game at 4:00 pm.
