Abigail Mellen ’24 Commits to Manhattanville University for Hockey

Congratulations to powerhouse Vermont Academy hockey player Abigail “Abby” Mellen ’24, for signing her National Letter of Intent to play Division III Women’s Hockey at Manhattanville University (NY) next fall. Abby has been a proven asset to the team, and a valued member of the VA community in a multitude of ways.
Abby joined VA this year as a post-graduate student and made her mark in the short time she has been part of the community. She set the intention early on to position herself as a leader and contribute to the hockey program as a whole. For the '23-'24 season, Abby received an All-NEPSAC (New England Preparatory School Athletic Council) Honorable Mention, recognizing her as a top athlete within the league. She was also the lead scorer for the season, with 12 goals and two assists.

“Abby worked very hard this season and has been grateful for every opportunity she has received,” said Head Coach of Girls’ Varsity Hockey Madison Paydos ’18. “Her efforts on the ice did not go unnoticed, and her level of offensive skill will be greatly missed. Abby's contributions go outside the rink as well. She puts her best foot forward in everything she does, encouraging her teammates to do the same. She cares deeply for those around her, and pushes everyone to do their best in a positive way.”

Abby attributes part of her successes as a student-athlete to the faculty at VA. “As a student, many of my teachers have supported me by catering to my learning style and helping me succeed in the classroom,” Abby shared. “They provide me with what I need as an individual. As an athlete, my coaches have also given me support based on what I need specifically.”

We look forward to seeing Abby continue her successes on and off the ice at Manhattanville as she enters this next chapter.
