If you have selected soccer, field hockey, crew, mountain biking, or cross-country running on your Athletics/Activities sign up form, you are invited to participate in preseason. All ability levels are welcome. Coaches do require that students express interest by early August so they know who will be attending. Attending preseason is not required to make a varsity team, however participation is strongly encouraged.

Please direct questions regarding preseason to the team’s head coach or Director of Athletics, Chris Davidson, cdavidson@vermontacademy.org.
  • Q. What is the opening of school schedule?

The opening of school schedule will be published in mid-August. Any questions or concerns should be directed to Dean of Student Life, Dave Hodgson, dhodgson@vermontacademy.org.
  • Q. What about technology - laptop, printer, etc?

Vermont Academy is a BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) school. IT supports mainly Windows-based and Mac-based computers. The IT team often supports Lenovo and HP laptops in the S800+ range, Macbook Airs, and Macbook Pros. They recommend purchasing accidental damage coverage or adding the device to your home insurance in case of damage over the course of the school year. Purchasing Microsoft Office and some kind of malware/virus protection is also highly recommended. During orientation, the IT Department will meet with each student in order to set up their computer with the Vermont Academy network, including access to student email and wireless installation of the school’s printers. Most students do not bring their own printer, as there are printing stations in each academic building on campus. For questions regarding technology on campus, please contact Director of IT, Jeff Harrington, jharrington@vermontacademy.org.

We have arranged for families to purchase textbooks and other assigned reading online through the school’s textbook provider, Follett Virtual Bookstores. Once you receive your schedule from the Studies Office (late July/early August), you may place your order and have your books delivered either to your home or Vermont Academy. Any questions or concerns should be directed to School Store Manager, Karen Langston, klangston@vermontacademy.org.
  • Q. What about cell phone use on campus?

Cell phones are permitted on campus, however we expect that phones are not used in academic buildings during the class day, on Long Walk, or in the dining hall. The most reliable cell phone reception on campus is with Verizon and U.S. Cellular. Please note that some service providers, such as T-Mobile, AT&T, and Sprint have limited reception on our campus. Phones with WiFi Calling are very helpful on campus.
