Kristýna “Kalty” Kaltounková Signs with Colgate Raiders Women's Ice Hockey

Vermont Academy girl’s hockey player Kristýna “Kalty” Kaltounková signed her national letter of intent with Colgate University. Kaltounková is currently a senior at Vermont Academy.

The signing has been a few years in the making for Kaltounková. She committed to Colgate in the middle of her sophomore year, which was her first year at Vermont Academy. In her three years playing in the Michael Choukas Ice Rink, she has accumulated impressive statistics: 94 goals and 54 assists for a total of 148 points in 54 games at VA.

Kaltounková has also played on senior Czech National Teams since she was 11 years old. She has had 76 goals and 61 assists with the U16, U18, and Senior teams. She recently helped her Czech team defeat Russia for the Euro Hockey Tour 5 Nations Tournament Championship in Dmitrov, Russia.

Vermont Academy’s Girls’ Varsity Coach Chris Ardito said, “The thing that makes Kalty who she is is her drive to get better, her drive for feedback, and her drive to make everyone around her better. She does this in soccer, lacrosse, theater, and on the ice. She embodies the saying of how you do anything is how you do everything.”

The national letter of intent (NLI) is a binding agreement between a prospective student-athlete and an NLI member institution. By signing the NLI, a student-athlete agrees to attend the institution full-time for one academic year (two semesters or three quarters). The institution in turn agrees to provide athletic financial aid for one academic year (two semesters or three quarters). For a student, signing an NLI stops any other school from actively recruiting them, which allows the student to focus on their team and their studies.

Kaltounková will start playing for Colgate’s Division 1 team next season.
