Why did you choose the University of Mary Washington?

I chose the University of Mary Washington for several reasons. I am excited at the prospect of living in a warmer climate with milder winters than New England. After visiting and talking to future teammates and the coaches, I really feel like it is a place where I can succeed not only on the field but in the classroom as well. I think this school, with hard work on my part, will properly prepare me for my future and be an exciting, fun four years of playing lacrosse.

What's it like to be a student-athlete at Vermont Academy?

The structure at VA has made being a student-athlete very easy. The school does a great job with the schedule. It is laid out in a way that helps me get the most done without wasting time. I know that I can take these organizational skills with me to be just as successful in college.

Who would you like to thank for supporting you up to this point?

I would like to thank my parents, Mr. Filler, all my teachers and coaches at VA, and all my friends and family. I have also had a lot of lacrosse coaches over the years and although they have had different coaching styles, there was a common thread. The overall message was not just to play hard, it was to have good character on and off the field. This has reinforced what my parents taught me. Without the support and patience of all these people, I wouldn't be where I am today.

What have you learned at VA that you will apply at the next level?

Some things that I have learned from VA that I will apply to the higher level are time management, how to live and interact with people in a dorm setting, and how to be independent away from home.

What does Vermont Academy mean to you?

VA has made a big impact on me. I have met some life long friends and it has prepared me for the next steps in life. I love the small peninsula that I grew up in, but Vermont Academy has really made me feel part of a global community. I have friends from all over the world and have enjoyed learning about so many different cultures that I would not have been exposed to in my hometown. I am very happy that I am finishing my high school career here. VA means so much to me.

What does this opportunity represent for you and your family?

My family and I feel very fortunate for this opportunity. It just feels right; we all had a good feeling from the first moment we drove onto the campus. I am the youngest child in the family and my mom has always said that you will know when the school is right, you’ll just feel it. All my siblings had this feeling, and now I do too. This opportunity represents my home for the next four years while I take on the role of student-athlete at Mary Washington University.
