Day of Silence 2019

The Vermont Academy Gender & Sexuality Alliance (GSA) will sponsor the second annual Day of Silence on April 30th, a student-led national event where folks take a vow of silence to highlight the silencing and erasure of LGBTQ people at school.
According to GLSEN, “nearly 4 in 5 LGBTQ students don’t see positive LGBTQ representation in their curriculum, nearly 8 in 10 experience verbal harassment, and almost a third miss school for feeling unsafe or uncomfortable.”

On VA’s Day of Silence students and faculty will vow to be silent for the day or part of the day in support of the LGBTQ community. There will also be a wall in Shepardson Center for the community to anonymously write why they support and stand in alliance with the LGBTQ community.
