Wildcats Win Home Opener

Coming off of their first NEPSAC Division II Championship, the Wildcats hosted Proctor Academy for their 2018-2019 home opener. Segui ’21 earned her first start between the pipes in black and orange.

VA came out flying with Kaltounkova ’20 (Colgate) scoring in the first shift, Walsh ’22 and Bazin ’22 were credited with the assists. The remainder of the period was back and forth play resulting in the Wildcats maintaining their one-goal lead going into the intermission.

In the second period, the Hornets were able to tie the game in the first few minutes. Both teams continued to battle in the second period, finishing the period at a 1-1 tie.

In the last sixteen minutes of the game, both teams came out with something to prove. The Wildcats were able to strike first at 14:17, Cavanaugh ’19 scored off a feed from Streed ’19. It was her first as a Wildcat. Seven minutes later the Hornets stung again tying the game at two apiece. With under five minutes, Citera ’21 scored off a faceoff win for her first as a Wildcat, putting VA up by one.

Vermont will face off with Proctor again in late January, in the meantime, they look forward to their next game against St. Paul’s on Saturday, December 8th at 4 p.m. in Concord, NH. This is the first matchup between the Wildcats and Big Red in six years.
