Vermont Academy spoke with Colette Vynerib '19 and Daniel Baker '19, this year's student body co-presidents, about their backgrounds and their goals for this school year. Colette and Dan are a dynamic duo with big plans for their co-presidency.
VA: Where are you from?
Colette: I am from Westport, CT!
Dan: Taiwan, but I was born in Boston.
VA: What are you passionate about?
Colette: I am super passionate about water skiing. I like to swivel ski and barefoot.
Dan: I love Nordic skiing. I am also passionate about having a positive impact, wherever I am.
VA: What class at VA has challenged you most and why?
Colette: My independent study on media changed me the most. I knew that I was interested in media, but I didn't know the specifics of my interests until then.
Dan: Biotechnology! I was super fascinated by being able to create and alter organisms by changing DNA.
VA: What does Vermont Academy mean to you?
Colette: Vermont Academy means a lot to me because it has shaped me into the person who I am today. I have developed so many social and academic skills from this school. I really care about our community and the people.
Dan: VA is more a community than a school. Here at VA we look out for each other and thrive as a group. Here at VA, we value our community and the people in it, which is exactly why everybody feels so supported.
VA: How do you plan on serving the community this year as student body co-presidents?
Colette: I plan on taking into account everyone's needs. My #1 goal for this school year is to have the happiest student body as possible by putting on social events and more.
Dan: Our three areas of focus include student life, academics, and athletics. The priority of our work is centered around the education and the overall well-being of our classmates.
VA: What is your favorite tradition at VA?
Colette: The spoon game!
Dan: Spoon game! If you ever play the spoon game, just pray that you aren’t my target.
VA: What do you want the class of 2019 to be remembered for?
Colette: Bright spirits and a tight-knit community.
Dan: The senior class that changed Vermont Academy in a fun and sustainable way.
