Introducing our New International Student Program Team

Vermont Academy is pleased to introduce the new coordinator of our International Student Program, Cynthia Murphy.

Cynthia has taught at in the music and English departments at Vermont Academy since 1987. She holds a master's of science for teachers from the University of New Hampshire. In 2003, after receiving her Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) certification from the School for International Training, Cynthia served as director of our International Student Program for ten years. In 2014-2016, she took a leave of absence from Vermont Academy to teach in Azerbaijan. She is now excited to return to heading up our International Student Program.

There are four other members of our new International Student Program team:

Adrian Diaz '14: International Liaison

Alumnus Adrian Diaz ’14 is returning to Vermont Academy after earning a bachelor’s degree from Saint Michael’s College. Adrian will focus on working with Spanish speakers and students from Europe, Mexico, and central and South America. He is a native of Spain and will also teach Spanish and coach soccer.

Richard Feng: International Liaison

Richard Feng is a native of China and a new addition to our Admissions Office as well as to our International Student Program team. Richard will focus on working with our students from Asia. He holds a master's of education from Boston University in TESOL and a B.A. in English for Economics and Trade from the University of Shanghai for Science and Technology. He has worked as an English teacher, a Mandarin Chinese teacher, a curriculum developer, and a director of Asian admissions.

Christy Catsos: Head of the International Resource Center and History ESL instructor

A member of our history department, Christy Catsos is the head of the International Resource Center (IRC), our peer tutoring program for international students. She has a master's in education from Providence College and a TESOL certification from the School for International Training. She spent a year teaching in Wuhan, China, before coming to Vermont Academy.

Tammy Clark: Primary Designated School Official for SEVIS

Our registrar, Tammy Clark, is also the SEVIS contact for international students.

Our International Student Program team is looking forward to welcoming our international students to campus this fall. Later this year, we will launch a search for a director of our Global Programs, which include our International Student Program and our trimester programs abroad. This year’s Global Programs in Spain and Chile will proceed as usual, with the same model (in which Vermont Academy teachers travel with our students) as in past years.
