Global Leadership Summer Symposium

July 8 - July 25, 2019

Vermont Academy’s Global Leadership Summer Symposium is an academic and global leadership program for rising 7th through 12th grade students from around the world. A leader in global education, Vermont Academy has designed a global leadership program that provides middle and high school students with an engaging and fun environment in which to:
  • Discover and practice different leadership styles
  • Discuss global and environmental issues
  • Share their cultures and learn about other cultures
  • Immerse themselves in the arts
  • Participate in team sports
Symposium at a Glance

Location: Vermont Academy campus in Saxtons River, Vermont

Dates: July 8 to July 25, 2019

Campus setting: 450 breathtaking acres, including 30 km of trails

Students' countries include (but are not limited to): Chile, China, Spain, Canada, United States

Eligible students: Rising 7th through 12th graders

Student-teacher ratio: 7 to 1

Daily Schedule:
Morning
Check-In: 8:00-8:15 a.m.
Breakfast: 8:00 – 9:00 a.m.
Morning Classes: 9:00 – 11:30 a.m.

Afternoon
Lunch: 11:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
Afternoon Classes: 1:30 – 3:00 p.m.
Check-in: 3:30pm
Sports and activities: 3:30 – 5:00 p.m.

Evening
Dinner: 5:30 – 7:00 p.m.
Supervised Evening Activities: 7:00 – 8:30 p.m.
Free time: 8:30 – 9:30 p.m.
Check-in: 9:30 p.m.
Lights out: 10:00 p.m.

Sports:
Soccer, Basketball, Frisbee, Swimming, Volleyball

Evening Activities:
S’mores and more
Trivia Night
Movie night (either on campus or Movie Theater)
Ping Pong and Pool tournament
3 on 3 basketball tournament
Dodgeball tournament

Students will benefit by:

  • Participating in team activities in leadership development and coaching, led by our own Outdoor Programs teachers
  • Engaging in experiential learning about environmental sustainability, behavioral economics, and designing and implementing school-wide public policies and projects
  • Forming a Model UN to discuss current global issues
  • Joining guided tours at Harvard University
  • Producing and sharing projects in painting, drawing, and photography
  • Developing trust and teamwork through sports and outdoor activities
