Preseason is for athletes who intend to try out for a varsity team. If you have selected soccer, mountain biking, or cross-country running on your Athletics/Activities sign up form, you can communicate with your coach through mid-July to find out if it would be appropriate for you to attend. Coaches will need to determine who will be attending by mid-July.
Please direct questions regarding preseason to the team’s head coach or Director of Athletics, Alexei Sotskov, firstname.lastname@example.org.
Vermont Academy is a BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) school. IT supports mainly Windows-based and Mac-based computers. The IT team often supports Lenovo and HP laptops in the S800+ range, Macbook Airs, and Macbook Pros. They recommend purchasing accidental damage coverage or adding the device to your home insurance in case of damage over the course of the school year. Purchasing Microsoft Office and some kind of malware/virus protection is also highly recommended. During orientation, the IT Department will meet with each student in order to set up their computer with the Vermont Academy network, including access to student email and wireless installation of the school’s printers. Most students do not bring their own printer, as there are printing stations in each academic building on campus. For questions regarding technology on campus, please contact Director of IT Jeff Harrington at email@example.com.
We have arranged for families to purchase textbooks and other assigned reading online through the school’s textbook provider, Follett Virtual Bookstores. Once you receive your schedule in late July/early August, you may place your order and have your books delivered either to your home or to Vermont Academy. Any questions or concerns should be directed to School Store Manager Karen Langston at (802) 869-6248 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
Cell phones are permitted on campus; however, we expect that phones will not be used in academic buildings during the class day, on Long Walk, or in the dining hall. The most reliable cell phone reception on campus is with Verizon and U.S. Cellular. Please note that some service providers, such as T-Mobile, AT&T, and Sprint, have limited reception on our campus. Phones with WiFi Calling are very helpful to have on campus.
Student leaders have compiled a comprehensive packing list for new boarding students and day students. The boarding student list includes a general description of what is standard in each dorm room. Please note that some things may vary between dorms.
Keene, New Hampshire, is about 30 minutes from campus and has the big box stores that are helpful when getting settled into a dorm room. Stores include Target, Wal-Mart, Bed, Bath & Beyond, Dicks Sporting Goods, and TJMaxx. The Holyoke Mall is about 60 minutes from campus. There will be several weekend trips to the mall during the early weeks of school. The campus store is also well stocked with basic dorm items and school supplies.
Yes, we can arrange for a car service from an area airport through Thomas Transportation at an additional cost to the student. If you need the school to arrange transportation, domestic students, please contact Dean of Residential Life Brian Gilloran, email@example.com. International students should contact our Global Programs Director.

New York City airports JFK, LGA – 4 hr 15 min drive from campus
You will need to bring your own bedding (including a warm blanket or comforter) and towels. Beds are extra-long twin size (84”). The school will arrange shopping trips to stores such as Target, Bed, Bath & Beyond, and Wal-Mart during orientation days, in case a student wishes to purchase additional items for their room. Transportation for these trips is provided by the school at no charge to students.
Each dorm contains free washing machines and dryers. Laundry detergent may be purchased in the Vermont Academy bookstore or locally. Students also have the option of paying for linen and laundry services through E&R Laundry Service. Students may sign up for either or both of these laundry services on Move-In/Registration Day.
During the first weeks of school, there are several shopping trips should students need to purchase bedding, lamps, athletic gear, etc. If necessary, however, students may ship items to themselves at school. Please DO NOT send items prior to Friday, August 10. You can send items to:
