On Dec 20, 2021, Vermont Academy at Liceo Europeo celebrated Candlelight, a long standing Vermont Academy tradition. For our celebration, students and faculty shared readings from our various cultures including Solstice, Diwali, Kwanza, Christmas, and Hanukkah and we lit candles for each.
We also lit luminarias from the Mexican tradition and looked at a video of the Kobe Illumination in Japan, which is a light display created in honor of the victims of the Kobe earthquake. Adriana played a solo on the piano and all of us sang Dona Nobis Pacem. The final part of the ceremony involved all of the students and teachers lighting their own candle and reading a wish that they had for the world. They then set their wish on fire to send it out into the world, and when everyone’s candle was lit, we sang Silent Night in English and Spanish.
