International Student Program

Jumpstart Orientation

Designed to facilitate a smooth transition to Vermont Academy, our Jumpstart Orientation program for new international students includes workshops, activities, trips, and the opportunity for students to build community and get the support they need.

This program is required for new international students. The fee is $1,850.
You’ll arrive for our Jumpstart Orientation in plenty of time to get comfortable and organized before the academic school year starts and avoid jet lag. You’ll be picked up at the airport by a Vermont Academy teacher. Once you arrive at Vermont Academy, you can unpack and begin setting up your room. Take a stroll and get to know our beautiful campus, classrooms, dorms, and facilities. Meet fellow new international students and start making friends. End the day with a welcoming barbecue at Leavitt House with the Head of School.
During the rest of the Jumpstart Orientation week, you will:

  • Meet your advisors, teachers, and coaches and start developing lifelong friendships
  • Shop for dorm and school supplies
  • Participate in workshops designed and taught by Vermont Academy teachers, including information about learning skills and academic benefits, American private school classroom expectations, Vermont Academy’s Writing Center, and VA's International Resource Center
  • Take English/ESL and Math placement tests
  • Register for all of your classes and sports
  • Get help from Vermont Academy teachers with buying textbooks
  • Enjoy afternoon sports including soccer, basketball, and swimming
  • Visit local farms and take day trips
