Conversations with our Faculty: Meet Ms. Lanterman

Amy Lanterman joined the Vermont Academy Learning Skills Department in 1989, after teaching special education in the local public schools for several years. She has a B.S. in elementary and special education and Vermont State teacher certification for K-12 special education. Amy thoroughly enjoys working with young people; in addition to teaching in Learning Skills, she coaches the dance team and is the director of the Academy’s student assistance program. Her outside interests include dance, yoga, kayaking, gardening, running, hiking, and “easy” bike rides. Amy lives in Saxtons River and is the mother of VA alumni Jenna '94 and Evan '97.

This interview is one in a series spotlighting Vermont Academy educators; their unique and innovative classroom approaches; what makes their classrooms successful and what challenges them; and what it means to live and teach at Vermont Academy.

Flag Ceremony 2021-22

On Monday, January 31, 2022, Vermont Academy hosted its annual flag ceremony honoring the countries which make up our community. Students, faculty, and staff carried flags representing 24 countries, the State of Vermont, Vermont Academy, and community groups into Community Meeting.

Emcees Stella Noonan ’23 and Natalie Kucerova ’24 announced the countries. Mr. Peter Ahlfeld then led the school in a trivia quiz involving interesting facts from each country.
The flags will now be hung in Shepardson Dining Hall.
