Tough competition against Cushing

The Girls' Varsity Team travelled to Cushing Academy on Saturday, May 14, 2011 and met a strong varsity team there.   Nonetheless, the third doubles team of Jessica Bae and Ayaka Izumi deserves applause because they battled for a sweet victory their match 9/8 in a tie breaker. Even though the team lost to Cushing 6/ 1, some of the match scores were deceiving because many of the games went to deuce.  The team will host their last home match against Stoneleigh-Burnham on Friday, May 20th.

The Girls Varsity Tennis team lost to the strong and deep Northfield Mount Hermon team 7/2 on Wednesday, May 11th.  Pulling in the two points for the team were Stephanie Song, number 6 seed and the number one doubles team of Margo Feingold and Monique Yingling.  Stephanie battled out the win after losing the first set 6/1, winning the second set 6/4 and then winning the match in a tie-breaker 7/3.  The number one doubles team of M & M won fought hard for their victory as well and won their match 8/6.  The team looks forward to another match on Saturday against Cushing on the Cushing home courts.

The Girls Varsity Tennis Team won every first set of the singles' competition in the match against KUA on Saturday, May 7th.  As the girls began to dominate in the second set, the skies opened up, and the rain poured down upon the courts. While the team regretted not being able to finish this match with a decisive victory, they felt good about their performance on the courts for forty -five minutes of play. The team looks forward to another home match against Northfield Mount Hermon on Wednesday and an away match against Cushing Academy on Saturday.

Girls bring home a Win Against Holderness!

The Girls Tennis Team drove to Plymouth, New Hampshire on Saturday, April 30th to play Holderness School.  Winning the match with a decisive 6/3 victory, the team scored three of the points in the singles' matches.  Margo Feingold, #1 seed, Monique Yingling, #2 seed and Valerie Hao, # 6 seed all defeated their opponents, and the team entered the doubles matches needing 2 of the 3 points for the win.  The doubles teams won across the board.  The team thanks Valerie Hao for stepping up from the junior varsity team to travel with them and help them bring home their first W of the season. The team looks forward to three home matches this week against Brewster, Dublin and Kimball Union. 

Second match against New Hampton

THe Girls Varsity Tennis team travelled to New Hampton on Wednesday, April 27th for their second match of the season.  Number one seed, Margo Feingold, defeated her opponent 6/4, 6/4 demonstrating strength and determination in every point.  Ayaka Izumi also played exceedingly well in the number six position. After losing the first set 0/6, she came back with a "never give up" attitude and won the second set in a tie-break, 7/6. Even though she lost the match in a tie-break 5/7, Ayaka becomes stronger and stronger with each match and is quickly becoming a formidable competitior.  The team lost with a disappointing 1/8 score but left the courts with a clear focus on the work we need to do and the next match: Holderness.

The Girls' Varsity Tennis team began their season in extreme weather conditions at Proctor Academy on Saturday, April 16th.  Several of the matches were close as the teams were playing in artic winds and bitter cold.  Ayaka Izumi played exeptionally well winning the number six singles position and beating her opponent with a decisive 8 - 3 score. The girls' look forward to their first home match against Brewster on Wednesday, April 20th.

A warm sun and fifty degrees welcomed the girls on the courts on Wednesday for the first day back from break! Tryouts will last until Friday when Coach Frey will announce the members of the Girls' Varsity Squad. The giris are looking forward to a competitive and fun season!
