A Letter From The VA Parents Association

You and your son or daughter have just become part of one of the friendliest and most outgoing communities in high school academics. Your reasons for choosing Vermont Academy undoubtedly include its fine academic and athletic reputation, but you may rest assured that your child is now in the midst of a warm, compassionate group of students and staff.

The Parents’ Association is an integral part of the Vermont Academy community and you are automatically members by virtue of your child’s attendance at the school. If you want to become more actively involved, we always have room for more on our operating board. We hold regular meetings throughout the academic year, usually scheduled to coincide with events that bring parents to campus, such as the beginning of school, fall and spring Parents’ Weekends, and the end of long holiday periods.

If you live within a couple of hours’ driving distance from campus, you may wish to attend our two potluck dinners at Chivers Center. The Head of School and a representative from the Development Office are usually present to bring us up to speed on campus news. Fall Parents’ Weekend is designed to give you an opportunity to attend classes with your child and to meet with his or her teachers and academic advisor. The college counseling office also schedules presentations on the college admissions process at this time.

We have one fundraiser each year consisting of a theme dinner, raffle, and live and silent auctions. Parents are encouraged to attend their child’s classes, athletic contests, and the student cabaret. Fundraising proceeds from the weekend, which last year totaled $34,000, are used to support student/faculty initiatives, and various capital projects. Parents are encouraged to consult this Web site for more information on our activities, as well as those of the rest of the school.

If you have any questions or concerns with which we can help, please feel free to contact us at our email addresses or telephone numbers listed below.

I look forward to meeting you!
